Comments on: As much as I would have liked to sneak in a Work Equipment photo for my 200th post attempt, I thought I better stick with what appears to be fan favourites of late … a Churchill, MB shot. :-) Here VIA 693 has completed its two-day journey from Winnipeg to Churchill and the consist will rest silently for less than 10 hours before VIA 6443 and VIA 6458 are fired back up for a southward trip to The Pas. My journey to Churchill was a great experience, and whether you’re a railroader, railfan, nature lover, or just enjoy a travelling adventure, this is a trip I would highly recommend taking, if for nothing else, its uniqueness. I’m looking forward to doing it again in the cold weather months. :-) My thanks to all those who ⭐’d my recent deluge of Churchill trip photos, and for all the kind comments I received.

Absolutely a time transition picture Paul when compared with Julian Bernard’s picture taken 32 years before, and other than the passenger train equipment, there does not appear to be much change. Your picture provides a great contrast in motive power and passenger train equipment over 3 decades, although the silver coach and your sleeper were certainly around in 1990 ! Julian was a long time good friend, a railway enthusiast who took many wonderful pictures and travelled on railway trains widely. He was the person who took me to my first Upper Canada Railway Society meeting in Oct 1954, personally introducing me to many members who also became long time friends. Sadly Julian passed away earlier this year, but his legacy of railway, interurban and street car photographs taken by him over the decades, like yours Paul, will be enjoyed by many railway and transit enthusiasts for many years to come. Thank you for the comparison, John.

might qualify for a time machine with Julian Bernard's photo

Thanks guys.

Except for a couple of hours leaving Winnipeg, and a few hours one afternoon in Churchill I had clear sky and sunshine the entire 7 days of the trip.

You can see how the rail and roadbed looked in 2009 here;

There may be some sections of CWR along the way but I cannot verify this as I was not off the train other than at regular stops which all indicated bolted track. I can tell you the ride and sounds indicated bolted all the way. :-)

Way to go Paul, good choice for your 200th posting, and your fans like me love your HBR and Churchill picture! Yes, please post some pictures of work equipment, and tell us more about on-going track and roadbed maintenance on HBR. Is there CWR or is it still jointed rail north of the Pas ?
