Comments on: As part of the Canada 150 Celebrations Alberta Prairie Railway staged two train operation with a demonstration freight train as well as the usual passenger train. While switching in the yard and getting everything set up the two locomotives provided a nice side-by-side pose. In front is Alberta Prairie’s 2-8-0 #41 and behind, on loan from the Alberta Railway Museum in Edmonton, is 2-6-0 1392.

Colin, great picture ! Love the contrast between the two ten-wheelers, the different headlight locations, the different front end number boards but similar number plates (at least in colour), one with vertical tube style pilot and the other with “western style” horizontal slat pilot, and though 41 has a smaller boiler and fire box, they both seem to have similar size domes and cab.

Great picture Colin ! Just a little note, 1392 is a 4-6-0,
used to chase some of her sister 4-6-0’s around southern Ontario in the later 1950’s

1392′s ditchlights were added years ago (during the 1990s I believe) to satisfy Transport Canada requirements for mainline running. The second dynamo was added to power them, as the added load would have been too much for just one dynamo to handle.

Interesting ditch lights on the 1392.
If I was a steam engine and given the choice, I would go for the big whistle too. That one looks darn impressive.
