Comments on: Back in the days when gatherings at the Junction were permitted, often with visits from the local police just to say “hello” and ask if there were any problems, summer nights were most enjoyable.
Not sure of the time captured here, but looking at the shadows thrown by the automobiles, it must be coming up to 2030 or so. A nice catch was westbound CN freight with 3 GP38-2s for power; CN 5570, 5508 and 5515. (In 1988 these were renumbered to 4770, 4708 and 4715.)
Over by the “shack” watching the train pass is a young and up & coming talented photographer Dave Stowe with his long-time friend Bill McArthur, who was rather legendary around these parts over a 40 plus year span of shooting trains at Bayview. Bill has passed on; the junction ground is neglected and quiet. A fence sees to that. An era faded into history, but most fondly remembered.

Don't know who that was in the car. The police show up in any sort of vehicle, so it would make sense, since he is not out with a camera in his hand.

Wonderful picture and caption. Summer evenings at Bayview and the surrounding area were pure gold and this image captures those sentiments perfectly. I found another image you took that evening where you also reference Dave Stowe.

I went to college with Dave nearly ten years after this photo was taken. I didn’t know him back in 1978 but it does kinda look like him (?) Anyway, whether it is or not, Dave was a big influence in my own railfanning development. Good times, they were.
