Comments on: Back when CN L542 had GMD1 no. 1444 and GMTX 2695 doing the honours were definitely times that were memorable as the CN takeover of the GEXR Guelph Sub was only 4 months in and 1 of 5 GMD1’s assigned to CN in Southern Ontario were put on 542. GEXR never operated with GMD1’s so the takeover in power sense was fantastic for some periods of time but then again, CN ain’t running from Mac to Stratford with an ex SP tunnel motor built in 1975 so I obviously still take those old EMD’s operating the Guelph Sub for granted. Here, CN L542 is seen backing down the main at XV with a solo hopper. They will then lift a cut of loaded centrebeams from the tail end of L540 for transfer to either Gilles Lumber, or Hunt’s Logistics on the CNR Fergus Sub.

The ex SP (the SP decal on the nose was a nice touch) and the Florida East Coast were nice units on the GEXR. But agree that it was a good swap out with the GMD-1's and the GATX leasers. Almost in favour of us railfans ;). Very nice Liam.
