<title>Comments on: BCR 6401 &#8216;The Northern Star&#8217; is an American model W-150 wrecking crane s/n W-3854. It was built new in 1969 for Pacific Great Eastern Railway and shipped to them in November of that year. Powered by a Detroit Diesel 8V-71, it produced 284 h.p. @ 2100 rpm. The crane is equipped with a 40 foot boom and 5 foot jib and has a self-propelled travel speed of 2-3 mph. After CN&#8217;s acquisition of BC Rail, both the crane and boom idler/cabin car were shipped to a local scrap dealer and scheduled to be destroyed but a concerted effort by the PG Railway &amp; Forestry Museum and a few other folks saved them from the torch and they are now on display at the museum. The crane was fully operational when it was taken out of service.</title>
