Comments on: Before the days of VIA and before the days of CP and CN pooling their resources, this all-CP ‘Canadian” from Sudbury to Toronto is seen running southward over the Parry Sound trestle on a rather dull afternoon. Photo is from the fire station tower.

Another timeless shot Arnold!!
I had 4 GP9's and 20 coaches on the Algoma run in August 1977......but how do we persuade CN and CP to reverse the directional running every year...just to switch things up? :)

Interesting. When I think of passengers going 'downhill' I think of how the Algoma Tourist Train would have 5 locomotives and 25 coaches in the height of fall. Now? No idea, but it is a lot smaller.

Thanks for reminding me how short The Canadian was for most of the year. After 1972, CP ran the Toronto-Sudbury Park car only from mid-June to mid-Sept. and about two weeks near Christmas. This summer consist had only one and a half coaches and two sleepers. There were six Toronto sleepers on the train even in May a few years before.
