Comments on: Before the formation of VIA, we used to see a CP passenger out of Toronto northward to meet the Montreal section of the Canadian at Sudbury.
Here is CP 4069 leading the train up the MacTier sub; crossing over the CP North Toronto sub, (having just left the W. Toronto CP station) and (foreground) CN Weston sub.
Quite the configuration of track at the old Toronto Junction district !!

Arnold, time to revisit, get up to speed ! Bring Tammy on the GO train from the Falls, a Jeep Grand Cherokee limo will meet you at Toronto Union Station and whisk you to West Toronto and other “inner city” railway photo spots, do it on a Tue or Fri and you can photograph the Canadian arriving in the city - limo rates like Leon’s furniture sale, “priceless” and no payment for 1 year.

Thanks, John. How you keep track of all this must take some study. I've not been around the area since the great overhaul, as it could be referred to. I really appreciate your effort to let me (and others) know just how it has all been reworked.

Nice, historical picture Arnold; the rail lines at West Toronto Jct are still there, but in a different configuration. Today the former double track CN Weston Sub which 4069 has just crossed (now owned by Metrolinx) is completely underground at this spot in a 4-track tunnel, the connecting track from CP’s West Toronto Station to the MacTier Sub upon which 4069 is traveersing with train no. 11 (Toronto-Sudbury section of CP’s Canadian) has been replaced with a sharply curved connection from CP MacTier Sub into what is left of CP Lambton Yard, and both CPR and CNR passenger train stations have been torn down. The CP Rail North Toronto Sub tracks which 4069 has just crossed are still there in their original alignment as is the south end of CP’s MacTiere Sub, but all the bolted track sections have been replaced with CWR. Today’s Canadian (using the same equipment) has changed ownership along with its route out of Toronto, now using the former CN Newmarket Sub (owned by Metrolinx) crossing over CP’s North Toronto Sub about a mile and a bit to the east of here, the North Toronto diamond having been removed. Today, there are no CP or CN passenger trains at West Toronto, but lots of GO Trains passing through on the former Galt Sub (Milton corridor), and sharing the submerged Weston Sub (Kitchener corridor) with the every 15 minute UPE service to/from Pearson Airport - how things have changed in 46 years ! Thanks for sharing, John
