Comments on: ‘ bread & butter ‘ units….

…so many MLW RS-18 and RS-10 units owned by the CPR…

   … the RS ‘s were ‘ Everywhere ! ‘

…some 137, give or take, on the roster…and that number excludes the fifty four or so ALCO RS-2 and MLW RS-2 & 3′s !

A pair of RS-18′s, with those MLW 251 prime movers getting a good workout ascending the Escarpment, near mile 37.8 Galt Subdivision

White Flags flapping, Extra 8770 West ( and White Markers illuminated) with 8753 near the Campbellville road crossing, October 20, 1979 Kodachrome by S.Danko

This train looks like the London Pickup, back in the day it was a trainload of shorts built at Toronto Yard & run to Quebec Street as needed, operated by a Pool crew.

Speaking of history, you will notice that there is slag ballast. The program to lay that down was largely complete by 1979. The welded rail was yet to come, you'll notice both tracks are still jointed rail. It was mostly in place all the way from Quebec Street and finished east of Guelph Jct before the start of GO train service in 1980 (or was it '81?)
