Comments on: C.N.R. westbound on C.N.R. mainline on left. C.N.R. with pusher and C.P.R. eastbound, stopped, on C.P.R. mainline on right. On Thompson River about 2km. west of Basque siding and 10km. west of Ashcroft. All trains run west on C.N.R and east on C.P.R. from Basque Siding to Mission, B.C.

Fantastic scene.
Is the road on the west/south side of the Thompson river passable in a regular vehicle, or is it truck/4×4 territory?
I presume the access to the area that you wish to explore (Comment 5) is via Basque road. How far down can you travel before hitting a gate or “No “trespassing” sign?
That area is, by far, my favorite for photographing trains. It will likely be quite some time before I can return there.

I’ll repeat my suggestion that – perhaps in time for next Christmas – a big coffee table book should be published, chock full of photos like the one here. Older folks who still buy and/or appreciate such a book; be they in Canada or abroad.

This is a stunning scene. Certainly has a lot of potential for variety. As for the Mega Dump, well, we hear enough of Toronto crying. Where did Vancouver go with their trash? I hope it isn’t by barge, dumped in the ocean, a la New York City !!!

Am trying to get access to the private property on the north (C.N.) side. Flew over area in light aircraft years ago, potential for some great pictures. Bought by the Metro Vancouver government years ago as the site of a mega garbage dump but idea shut by provincial goverment.
