Comments on: Canadian National wooden centre cupola caboose 77831 (not matching the typical CN offset-cupola appearance, as it was one of the few GTW cabeese transferred to CN) trails a CN S13 switcher across Kipling Avenue crossing in Rexdale, on the Brampton (soon to be Weston) Subdivision in 1963.

This crossing has since been grade separated in 1968, and just a stone’s throw away is the site of the present-day Etobicoke North GO station. While Metrolinx currently owns the Weston Sub, CN locals continue to service the remaining industries (albeit, without a caboose).

I'd hazard a guess that there might have been a switching job based out of Rexdale at some point, based on the sheer amount of industry there in the 1960's and 1970's. It's hard to come across specifics for old assignments and locals sometimes.

But today, there's maybe a dozen customers along the Weston Sub that still get rail service, so CN runs a job out of Mac Yard to switch them out.

That is an interesting photo on all counts Bill. Kipling Ave. in Rexdale was a long way from Port Credit in 1963. I know, the girl who became my Wife lived in Rexdale and it was a long way 15 years later! I doubt I was ever on that crossing before it was Grade Separated. That area had quite a bit of manufacturing so the locals must have been busy. Was that train based down in Mimico or was Rexdale an "outport"?
