<title>Comments on: Canadian Pacific P2g &#8220;Mikado&#8221; 5406 (built by MLW in 1940) sits at Scarlett Road at the west end of CP&#8217;s Lambton Yard in West Toronto. Presumably, the crewmember posing at the pilot is waiting for a helper or &#8220;assist&#8221; engine to arrive and couple on the front for the trip west on the Galt Sub, climbing the grades up to Orr&#8217;s Lake.

With dieselization well underway and almost complete on CP, 5406 and other steam engines that remained only had a few months to a year left in service before retirement and the inevitable appointment with the cutting torch.
