Comments on: Canadian Pacific used to maintain a car washer just west of the station in Calgary, primarily to clean the windows prior to the trip through the Rockies. But, as we can see, it was also used for the eastbound Canadian. Here Skyline dome 517 is part of a 15 car consist (including an express box car) getting a “bath”.

If I recall correctly, that boxcar would be set off in Calgary and spotted at the post office building immediately in front of the Palliser Hotel. These cars were nicknamed "Time cars" as the post office used them to forward Time Magazine to the west coast.
