I remember a bulletin explaining this was acceptable with CROR 63 as per TC but I can't recall when. Just over 5 years on the North end now and I don't remember CP ever having permission to use a red painted engine as a marker (how would that work at night until you're on top of it/you had all CEFX bluebirds although some of those had little red reflective squares on the walkway chains similar to the paddles VIA was using), before a headlight on dim was acceptable you were still required to display a TIBS/red marker to indicate the rear of a movement unless of course you operate as a transfer/double siding split as per CROR 63 in 2015 but that paragraph has been edited now and the new "tablet CROR" won't load at home for a quote unfortunately. Hence why there's so many photos of CP DPU's with SBU's mounted to them to display the flashing marker at night. I agree with you though I'm surprised the red marker lights we use have never popped up on their fleet especially the latest rebuilds. I do know that red indicates the end of a train that CP got approval to use their red locomotives as the end of a train. I only wondered about these units as the are not painted red and have no built in marker. Considering they were rebuilt recently one would think they would have added the marker lights @MuskokaMoFo . Last tail end DP I had @ BIT couldn't get the marker line to come on at all and couldn't even find the reference to a flashing red marker in the CROR/tablet anymore.
