Comments on: Caption: Once home for the Massey family, this village was incorporated in 1856. Coincidentally, during the same year the Grand Trunk Railway completed its line, initially building a limestone station, similar to those still standing at Port Hope, Napanee and Prescott. CN Newcastle Station, circa 1960. For those who have pit stopped at the 401 On Route west of Port Hope, you would’ve viewed a mural of the full structure at its peak. This was the second structure, as it replaced the limestone structure when the GTR double tracked their mainline. By now, the large baggage area was truncated as traffic started to decline. Bonus to those who can identify the year and make of the pickup, travelling along Toronto Street – today, it’s an industrial park. For the full history, you can go to the THRA website.
