Comments on: Carleton Place CP station was declared a heritage structure in 1994. Beautiful old sandstone structure. Here, in better days, when there at least used to be track here, CN 6535 and VIA 6621 slow up with VIA #2, Montreal-bound. ‘CN’ removed from the nose, unit soon to be painted in VIA colours. CP line pulled up 2012.

Quite the comments, Todd. Thanks. Too bad the place is empty. You'd think it would make a great home. Lots of space and heck, it is probably built better than 3/4 of the houses that go up these days.

Great photo! I was just up at Carleton Place at the beginning of July. Station sits empty again and up for lease. Used to house a daycare. Nonetheless many fond memories from late 80's as we had friends living in the area. Their house was beside the 'mainline' from Smiths Falls to Almont, Pakenham, etc. Can recall the countless evenings sitting on their front porch just to see a train go by. Saw the Canadian...still led by a couple of CP units. Wish I took more photos then....

Also....note that the trackage this train is on came up early 90s...this was a wye and is now a busy street. Arnolds correct the the 'main' was torn out in 2012. Now it's all being converted to a walking trail.

Thanks for this, Jakob! I just assumed she was going to be into VIA colours. Didn't realize she did not live long enough for the transformation to take place. Rather shocking.

So 6535 never received VIA colours - it hit a washout on the St. Maurice Subdivision on May 15, 1981. That's the day after this photo, meaning this is the unit's second-last assignment.

Afterwards it sat around Montreal for years but was never put back into service, only used as a part donor. As if the photo wasn't sad enough with the line now removed and service gone.
