Comments on: Change is inevitable. My night time trips to Preston over the last few years were always something to look forward to, especially considering the night lighting was usually not to challenging behind the used car lot. Unfortunately my night trips as back up company rep. at the Toyota plant were coming to an end and this bitterly cold night would mark my last trip. Within a week production of the Toyota Corolla in Cambridge would end for good along with my 22 years of employment with a major supplier. I believe the Corolla has been built there since the plant opened in the mid 1980s. Never the less this spot in Preston has been home to parked power for both the GEXR and CN for years and continues to do so. With a wind chill close to -30 this night the units prime movers will get no rest. It was nice of the crew to forget to turn out the headlight this night as it almost makes it look as if the power is about to switch out the centre beams at the wallboard facility but that won’t happen till daylight.

I’m enjoying this image once again as it just showed up in the ‘favourites’ banner. It’s so clean; with an otherworldly feel to it.

Most of CN's and other power is equipped with "Smart Start". If the cooling water temp drops below a certain temperature the units come back online. This saves the company thousands of dollars in fuel and repair charges. In the winters of course the units rarely ever shut down.

Great night shot Marcus. You certainly get a sense of the cold with the exhaust.
