Comments on: CLASSIC 1980′s – Leading unit NF210 #941 of Terra Transport Mixed Extra 941 West is paused Grand Falls during Christmas week of 1987 so the trainman can attend to the switch. The 1200 horsepower unit with a CN Class of GR-12-x and built by GMD of London Ontario, was one of 9 in the final order shipped to Newfoundland in 1960. Its new paint and the excellent maintenance carried out by the shop crews in St. John’s belies the fact that this particular unit was 27 years old!Although suspected but not confirmed until a few months later, the former Newfoundland Railway was living on borrowed time and it would be the last Christmas week that Grand Falls or any other town on the Island would ever see train service again.

Thanks Stephen! I am going through my slides from 1987 and '88 and have a few scanned. I'll be sure to post any that I think will be interesting of our beloved railway. I encourage any photographers with their unseen Newfoundland gems to do the same. Sincerely,
Ken
