Comments on: CN 1600 Yard Job comes around the wye on the New Gages Spur, pulling ahead to eventually clear the switch and shove back onto the Firestone for their night of work. As far as I know this is the last shot of CN 1439 in service for CN. There was no else out this night, and the next morning the unit was off to Mac on 422 and out of active service.

Ian there were about 8-10. four in Toronto, four or five in Winnipeg and one in Jasper area as I recall.

The last unit that was in revenue freight service was 1437 which was in revenue service in Kitchener around April 22/23.

One has lingered in Winnipeg for training for a few years thought for new employees to play on.

Thanks for the comments guys. Unsure about total numbers across the roster – there were a handful in service in ON at the end. We had a healthy dose of them in Hamilton luckily. Do miss them though.

Sad times when these old units are put out to pasture. I’m glad one was donated to the WSJR, and looks great in the old green and gold livery. I also remember too, when some of the units were on our local 514 (Chatham to Blenheim, and Thamesville)..there’s nothing that compares to the sound of these engines running…or the smell of the exhaust.
