Comments on: CN 242 a detouring crude oil train crosses high above the Grand River and the town of Paris Ontario on a chilly February day. During the rail blockade on the Kingston Sub, CN detoured all kinds of trains over their various routes which lead to some unique trains that we don’t usually see in this neck of the woods.

Nice shot Joe! I believe this was a detour from the Sprague/Fort Frances sub due to a derailment that CN had in Emo, ON at the time. It would normally have gone in to the US at Ranier, MN but instead came across CN’s NOZ. No crude oil trains came over the ONR that I’m aware of.

I’m not entirely sure the origin but it did come across the ONR from Quebec.

Interesting. Do you know the route of this train – where it originated from and where it was destined to? Since it’s an even numbered symbol, the route must have been west to east (it was westbound at Paris).
