Comments on: CN 3065 is westbound at MP 45.8 as it crosses the Thompson River at Ashcroft on CNs Ashcroft Sub. In this shot the 3065 is at the same location as the westbound 9552 in my recently submitted photo that was taken in 1995.

It is a hot area...and like some places south of the border, the rattlers take shelter where there is shade so you have to watch your step. If you are uneasy around snakes, DON'T go to Tehachapi Pass.

Dave - You can't get near the Ashcroft Terminal but the area is open otherwise. On my first attempt into the area I followed the rules and stopped at the office to get permission. The girls giggled (I wasn't the first) and told me I had to use the road at my own risk. Evans Rd., except for a short section with a few intimidating signs near the terminal is a public road. It dead ends at the Koppers facility (see map) but anything between Ashcroft and Koppers is available for the taking.

I was just there and sadly, there is now a large gate preventing access to this road once you get to Ashcroft Terminal.

Thanks for the comments. I knew you'd note the UP unit Larry. In fact this summer hasn't been that hot. When I was trying to get shots at this location during the winter it was minus 32.

Boy, I've driven through the Spences Bridge/Lytton area feeling like the car is going to melt to the road. Hot, hot hot. I see the east bound has a UP unit midtrain. :-)

Cool temps and some shade would make this an ideal place to hang out. Great shot.
