Comments on: CN 330 makes another rather late appearance through St. Catharines. Having shown up 8 minutes later than the last time I saw it, the sun was a little further down. Both locomotives are of 5500 series, however of different railroads. With CN 5550 leading, BNSF 5523 trails elephant style with the sun radiating very strongly off the autoracks. With the tank cars in the distance also lit up, the end of the train is noticeable.

Yes, the GO had already left, and was creeping up to Jordan to wait for CN 330 to clear the block. If you did stay at Merritton though, I doubt any reasonable sunlight would have made it through the buildings and trees for a reasonable shot. How did you get a reasonable shot of 330 around 5:30pm? Unless it was the winter, its ridiculously backlit otherwise.

I stopped around 6 in merriton hoping 330 would come through last night before having to go out to dinner, but the canal bridge went up so I said forget about it and left…I think the best lighting I ever had in a photo was when it came at 5:30 one day

Thanks! Indeed, lighting for 330 is normally terrible. I caught it tonight, and the lighting couldn’t be much worse. For morning westbounds, its either backlit or cloudy. For CN 421, its too early to get sufficient sunlight. I hope CN 330 will come around sunset more often.

Or sunset. I have taken backlighting for granted, and completely forgot how it can work out in my favor.
