Comments on: CN 7316 and 7305 trundle down the middle of Pine St in Thorold in August 1999 with what was apparently the last run to the Gallagher paper plant farther up the street near Albert Av. Three boxcars were retrieved from the plant, which had declared bankruptcy 2 months previously, and closed in August’99. The recycled paper operation was known as Noranda Forest, Inc until taken over by Mike Gallagher operations in 1997. The plant was offered for sale and speculation that it might return to operations under a new name never materialized. For me, this was the ultimate in luck to happen by at this time. So for the record, this trackage was never operated by the Port Colborne Harbour (Trillium), which was in the process of taking over St. Catharines area switching.

I’m actually informed instead of using the block from that unit they instead purchased a NEW Block for 7304..

I believe, 90% that 7316 is being repainted at LDS now. Been in primer for a couple months now. 90% because it’s not confirmed.

Well, I think the intent was to rebuild it but as things go, 7304 needed a block.. and LDS owned one they could transfer, so it was made so. Business is business right???

So as the CTG notes 7316 went to Lambton Diesel Specialists, the intent was to use it for parts eh? Trust you dig up this information.

Hey Arnold, the block from 7316 was used to re-power 7304 now assigned to Hamilton Steel Centre.

I’m surprised these tracks are still around. The city just repaired parts of the road in between the tracks last week and still cut the grass around them. In another twist, the rest of the Townline Spur is being ripped up this week.

In many areas, Steve, the works departments just paved over the rail next time the surface needed it. Especially in Hambone I used to see a lot of potholes and cracks develop over top of the buried rail. Heat expansion and all that………..
