John, I think you are correct, this is a former Wabash van which has been hastily painted and renumbered following the merger with Norfolk and Western in 1964. Among other differences, I don’t recall seeing a CN van having numbers stencilled on the cupola.

For a historical side view of N&W 562648 visit the Elgin County Museum Heritage Collection;

Thank you for your comments, Bruce sorry I missed seeing you at 6167 Guelph Open Days, and yes Mr. Mooney, they were “fun” days. Terry, appreciate your fine detail observations, and have a question, I don’t remember CN vans with car number across the back of the cupola, so maybe this was a WABASH van ? John

A priceless photo which has captured a great scene of railroading in the past. The left marker lantern appears to be missing a few lens. The other crew member can be seen in the cupola looking back maybe to verify the engine number on the meet.
