Well, the microwave meals will get you by, but they are not even up to the level of airline food! The selection is quite limited. Swedish meatballs w/mashed potatoes, pizza sub, cheeseburger, butter chicken w/rice, omelette w/bacon & potatoes, Mr. Noodle soup, and a selection of chocolate bars, cookies, and cold drinks.
I brought along my own snacks (salted almonds, black licorice, granola bars, and some fruit. Grabbed a Subway in Thompson on the way to Churchill, and a Subway in The Pas on the southbound trip.
I didn’t go hungry! Besides, it doesn’t hurt me to miss a meal or two!!

Paul, another one of your classic pictures, great composition, the dome coach, a Chateau sleeping car, the old station structure on the left and typical “small” railway yard in the background ! The former CPR dome car and sleeper make pictures timeless, after all they have only been in pictures for the past 70 years !! Thanks for the info and posting the pictures of your latest Churchill trip, always enjoyable, John. PS, what are the microwave meals like ?

Yes, the Skyline dome was fully accessible to coach and Sleeper Plus passengers on both directions of my most recent Winnipeg to Churchill and return trains.
Since July 2022 until September of this year I have taken VIA #693/#692 The Hudson Bay three times round trip, and VIA #690 (Churchill to The Pas) once. The Skyline dome car has been open to passengers on each of these trips.
There has not been a dining car on the Winnipeg-Churchill train since the beginning of COVID in 2020. Microwave meals are available for purchase on board.

Another great shot Paul. Just curious, was the Skyline Dome open for passengers? I noted on VIA’s site that it was not accessible. – Ken
