@Joseph. Well I will respectfully disagree with you. Plus most railfans only see a very small part of most subdivisions so I think that is a generalization.

Seriously? Come on guys, its not like the entire main is covered in some jungle. Yes admitted they could break out the weed sprayer, but I have seen worse. To be honest they don’t really concentrate on the tracks as much as the do beside the right of way. Right now at Metrolinx the are spraying for poisonous plants.

HAHA @ Snake. Alas my friend. I am only working around tracks that are owned by Metrolinx. CN will just have to get the weed sprayer up there sometime. Remember that there are track patrols on the Dundas and most other subs every few days and even daily with this extreme heat. Weeds are the last thing the railroad is worried about!

Foreman Hall..perhaps you should get your squad up there ? I always have said CP’s glass smooth track and roadbed is the gold standard..CN is close second.

Have to disagree with you there my friend. The weed growth does not effect the tracks unless it grows over top of the rail. If you tried to pull out the weeds you would find that they grow very close the surface of the roadbed.
In my 36 years of railroading i was much more concerned about moving over tracks with ties that were split and shattered and my locomotives rocking from side to side or moving over tracks that were shooting up mud as i moved over them. I will take a weed on the roadbed any day.

The photo is great, but excessive weed growth does affect the quality of the roadbed which will ultimately affect the railroads ability to move traffic. This shows that the roadbed is deteriorating rapidly. Perhaps I am just looking back to my brakeman days when there was not a blade of grass or a weed within 20 feet of the mainline. This picture proves that CN is only interested in the bottom line. A couple of dollars for weed killer would go a long way.
