Comments on: CN re-route train #320 is seen here behind CN 5796, 5410 and 2135 crawling past the former Ford yard just before crossing Rose-Ville Garden Drive. The old yard lead can be seen in the foreground, however there is another connection and today the yard is used to store cars for a local customer.

However if they had used the CASO to Pelton, trains would have waited in Van de Water with ease without blocking any crossings. This would have only been possible for eb's though as the wb's had to go through VACIS which is west of the Pelton Spur.

The connection is still there but heavily overgrown and the signals are off. I'm sure using the CASO to Pelton would have worked, but instead they stayed on CP until the Chrysler Spur, which meant they had to break up their trains in several sections after exiting the tunnel while waiting for VIA so they wouldn't be blocking any crossings.
The first few eb re-routes just waited to get on the Chatham Sub. and held up traffic on Jefferson and Tecumseh for hours. After that I think word got out and they amended the situation. Wb's waited their turn just east of Chatham where it's double track.
