Thanks everyone for the comments. Sorry Steve but your comment regarding the lunar signal is not correct. If some wannabe railroader told you that then I’m certain one of your legs is definitely longer than the other. Terry’s explanation is correct.

A dolly (dummy) mast is installed when a governing signal is located to the right of another track, and it is between the signal and the track it governs. CN CROR 402 provide a good illustration; a dolly mast may be with or without a light.

The lunar signal was there for years.As Steve mentioned it was removed when the south service track was taken out. Bruce

Dolly mast! The lunar signal is there to denote that the next switch after the signal is to be ignored, as it was a yard track not the mainline. This signal was removed in 2005.
