Comments on: CN train 888 is seen getting its train together on the east side of Midland at Tiffin yards near Tiffin #2 elevator. The three six-axle units, a BBD HR-616 and two GMD SD40-2Ws, will have easy work of the grain traffic out of the harbour, but will be put to work after lifting stone traffic from the Uhthoff Quarries. Just over a year remains for grain traffic over the line, which once carried grain tonnage east to Lindsay and on to Belleville for points east. The “at-and-east” grain subsidies cancelled in 1989 resulted in the closure of Tiffin (in 1989) and other lake great lakes elevators.
