Comments on: CNR S-1-f Mikado, 3466, waits on the helper track at Bayview Junction ready to assist the next heavy train upgrade through Dundas. Note the marker lanterns on the front walkway, and at far right, the semaphore at the junction with the Oakville Subdivision, and the old Spring Gardens Road bridge. Built by MLW 1913 as GTR 561 it was renumbered CNR 3466 1923, and finally scrapped in 1959.

Wow – wonderful image – crystal clear even by today’s standards. With the rods down I can’t help but wonder if the crew didn’t spot the locomotive for the photographer. I have a couple of CNR Mikado number plates on display in my home – this shot reinforces my belief that these were truly impressive locomotives.

One classy assist engine ! Note the Vanderbilt tender, the white wall drivers and pony wheel. Someone at the Hamilton roundhouse is taking care of this engine ! John
