Comments on: CP 254 and 255 continue to run back and forth between London and NS Bison Yard in Buffalo, NY with CP 6248, CP 6236 and CP 5012. I’m still trying to get a decent shot of CP 5012 leading, which would have happened right here if the power hadn’t been turned a week or so ago. It usually doesn’t. CP 254 is seen in nice late-afternoon light approaching Concession Road 6 in Flamborough Centre.

CP’s wye in London is out of service last I heard, frog was pulled from one of the switches and straight railed…

The wye VIA used (when 85 ran) is on CN track that CP doesn’t have rights to so that’s a NO for that one also.

I believe the other wye in London is used by VIA 85 (when it runs) and it connects to CP from there. 5012 is interesting for me becuase it is one of around 15 SD30C-ECOs that have low ditchlights. So both ends of this consist are nice right now! Nice shot!

Interesting. I know the former EMD plant has a wye in London but i’m not sure CP can wye there unless they have the gate opened and it might not be “CP” property.

There is otherwise no wye in London. The other wyes are Ayr (4 axle only) and Galt (6 axles can wye there) and of course, the new wye in Windsor by HC wind.

Then there is Aberdeen and Welland (around the connecting tracks)

It wyed in London on September 9. Again, like everyone else, I couldn’t tell you why. Maybe they used this power to do HCL randomly? They go around the wye when they switch them I think. Not the first time I have seen the 254/5 power randomly turned around, either.

And yeah, I am also on the SD60 bandwagon for this. Didn’t pay any attention to this set until it wyed, as I am not too keen on the 30s, and I find 255 angles a lot better than 254 angles.

@ Kevin, I agree the SD60 is better, I just haven’t photographed too many of the SD30C-ECOs.
