Comments on: CP CWR-22 hustles down the Mactier sub on an overcast February day with an action red duo of CP 6080 & CP 6045, the latter wearing the iconic multimark scheme.

This week, both units were sent to Mayfield to get the Keith Creel treatment, a fate worse than death in my opinion. 2 more examples of the decline of the once great Canadian Pacific Railway.

For those wanting to keep track, CP 6028 & 5988 accompanied them, leaving a limited number of units active in their vintage schemes.

A full breakdown of units still in service (as of June 29/2026) should be:
Dual Flags- 4404, 4507, 6009
Multimark- 5101, 5922, 5996,
6063, 6067
Action red- 5766, 5908, 6073

Sorry for turning this into a Loconotes post, I hope you appreciate the photo and memory of these units as much as I do.

Nothing more classic than seeing these old units. Especially on the CP. I'm sure CN had them too, but there is just something about the old CP paint that makes these even more enjoyable to see. Including the old multimark scheme too. Great catch, and great update too....thanks for 'cooling' us down on such a hot summer day!

Thanks for keeping track, someone has to. The community appreciates it.

I'm just glad the SD's are getting repainted to live another life on yet another "class 1 railroad".

All this while I have recently learned FEC is parking their SD40-2's - hopefully that's only temporary.. only one is active right now I am told and usually there would be a handful to a dozen over the last 20-30 years when they arrived. They are my favorite model.

Really nice photo. Great caption; summary of those old warrior SDs much appreciated. I find it shocking how once so many have become so few.
Sure it happens with all models, but the SDs were already on the scene when I got into this hobby more than 50 years ago.
