CP suffered a New Year's eve derailment at Sucker Lake on the Belleville Sub sometime after this shot was taken, & one result of that incident was that they instituted an 8 unit limit on locomotive consists. I don't know if it's still in effect or not.

The leasers were Montreal destined. From there a number of possibilities...perhaps someone in the know...
The CP Rail Freight Train Schedules folder dated April 30, 1978 shows 916 daily origination Windsor and terminating Montreal, with Detroit traffic from Chessie and N&W, and onward Montreal connections with NJ #200 & 206 to the D&H. More Eastbound connections with MEC RY-1 at St.Johnsbury and with B&M 8904, JS-2, JS-6 at Wells River. ( B&M 8904 being an extension of the daily 904 CP Rail express originating Windsor).
