<title>Comments on: CP S3 6538 is shown parked in Guelph near the old stone freight building in April 1981. By this point in time, CP was phasing out its old Alco/MLW switchers (many dating back to the steam era), and the final ones would be retired in the mid-80&#8242;s. CP 6538 was retired in 1985, and one of the last units on the roster still in the maroon and grey &#8220;block&#8221; livery (having never been repainted in action red paint).A few notable features about this unit are the handrails touched up with modern action red and black paint, the watchman&#8217;s heater (for keeping the engine warm when shut down at branchline outposts), front numberboard, 3-chime horn, exhaust spark arrestor and air vents cut into the front cab roof.</title>
