Comments on: CP train 12, the Toronto section of “The Canadian” heads south across Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan, Ontario. FP7A CP 4069 is leading, a single FP7A in this range being typical power on this run at the time.
CP 4069 is approaching the power-operated switch at the north end of “Elder” passing siding.
By 1991 Elder siding had become the connection to and from CP’s then-new Vaughan Intermodal Terminal.
Just over 4 months after this picture, October 29 1978, VIA assumed responsibility for CP’s passenger rail services. VIA’s visible impact was limited in the first year, but became more obvious after that with repaints and mixed equipment. Apparently VIA moved “The Canadian” to CN tracks in 1990, simultaneous with dropping the “Super Continental”.

Thank you Eric for the comment. Will be more cautious about repeating what I read in Wikipedia in future. The caption has been changed based on further research.

Via moved the Canadian to CN's Newmarket sub with the takeover. Somewhere on the web there is a photo of the last southbound run at Medonte.
