With the new rules it seems it's no longer feasible to do it, unless it's an emergency.. If the London crew (the only ones on this Sub back then)had no train at Aberdeen they would still have a van with them. It was common to double the hill to Waterdown & I've even done it to Guelph Jct but in that case the light power would be southbound. I suppose it could be power headed for Goderich & they agreed to get a van at Guelph Jct because none were available in Aberdeen, but the Goderich ran after dark in those years.
