Comments on: CPR G3g “Pacific” 2399 (built by CLC in September 1942, scrapped September 1961) heads up a train of mixed passenger equipment including TH&B and NYC cars, on joint the NYC-TH&B-CP train #322 from New York to Toronto. It’s seen running eastbound over CN’s Oakville Sub enroute to Union Station, as CP had running rights over this portion of CN from Hamilton Junction to Toronto for decades.

The old white Aldershot Cold Storage building is visible in the distance, so this would have been shot looking west from around where Gallagher Road used to cross the tracks (today the site of Aldershot Yard). Aerial photos show an old brickyard(?) south of the tracks, out of frame to the left.

Original photographer unknown, Dan Dell’Unto collection duplicate slide.

Thanks for the additional info railwayguy. It's hard to believe the extent of passenger service that used to run on those rails back in the day!

Bruce: ah, I see the station now!

Yes, taken from the iron bridge that carried Gallagher Road over the tracks.
Beautiful image Dan !!
Off to the left would have been J. Cooke Concrete a property that was still viable up until a few years ago. Its where the South GO parking lot is now located, east of Waterdown Rd and south of the station.
Waterdown Road was the level crossing for which the whistle post is required.
And we can make out Alderhot station on the north side of the tracks, pretty much opposite the cold storage.

Great picture Dan. Someone at the TH&B Chatham Street Roundhouse had pride - look at the clean state of 2399, including white washed driving wheels. Quite a consist behind the TH&B baggage car and 2 TH&B coaches. CPR Operating Timetable Eastern Region - Ontario District #130 taking effect 12:01 am Sunday April 26,1959, on page 16 Hamilton Subdivision shows CPR train #322 departing TH&B Hunter St Station at 6:30 am EST (7:30 am DST ) and by Hamilton Jct six minutes later. Train #322 operating Daily ex.Sun. Is scheduled to arrive Toronto Union Station at 7:35 am EST. The closest CNR Operating Timetable I have is Southern-Ontario District, London & Stratford Divisions taking effect Sunday Sep. 30, 1956, showing CPR passenger daily #712 (CPR’s original train number) by Bayview at 7:48 am EDT and Burlington at 7:54 am EDT. No time is shown for Aldershot. Looking at the shadow cast by 2399 indicating low morning sunlight, I would guess this
picture was taken at about 7:50 am EDT. NYC & CPR equipment lists show the following sleeping cars for TH&B train 371/CPR 322 (formerly 712) for Toronto from : New York City two 13 DBR (ex-Sat) plus two 10 R’ettes-6 DBR; from Boston one 10 R’ettes-6 DBR; from Cleveland one 17 R’ettes and from Pittsburgh (via P&LE) one 10 R’ettes-5 DBR, for a total of 7 sleepers, plus at least one through coach from NYC for a total of 8 plus the 3 TH&B cars. Back in 1954 there was a NYC diner-lounge car added at Buffalo, but it may have been dropped by 1959. I had the pleasure to ride behind 2399 on June 30, 1955, from Toronto to Montreal on a CPR Boat Train Special (along the Lakeshore main line) conveying steamship passengers to SS Homeric at Wolf’s Cove, Quebec City. Thank you for sharing this colour photo.
