Comments on: CSX in the late 80′s was a “hodge-podge” of power. Here we have a “Grain Extra” power set sitting in Fargo, Ontario after delivering an 80 car empty grain train to W.G. Thompson in Blenheim, Ontairo. Power consist is a Seaboard System SD40-2, a Family Lines GP16, a VMV Leasing (ex-Conrail, exx-EL) SDP45, and a Chessie GP40-2 to round out the quartet. This power was lifted by westbound R321 a little later which had a Chessie GP40-2 on the point, an Seaboard Coast Line (still in black) GP40, and a CSX SD40 for power when it arrived. Wish it had still been light enough out to have shot that consist leaving that evening!!

Stephen,

Yes, I'm standing on the Southeast connector to the C&O #2 sub. The units are on a "back track" that was located there and only ran a short distance before tying back into the w/b pickup track (where the tanks are in the background).

Nice photo. Is this the south-east quadrant of the Fargo diamond area? Basically the tracks leased by CSX for interchange after the abandonment of #1 sub.. so i'm looking at two yard tracks and the last track in the background is the mainline. The track at right is the CN/CSX interchange connecting track
