Comments on: Despite my young age, I’m lucky enough to remember somewhat when Niagara Falls Yard was full of yard power and cars, with a Conrail or NS unit sitting here or there. Seeing how it looks today, I usually prefer to look away from the yard. Looking the other way, there is surprisingly still two tracks leading up to Niagara Falls station. The bright green weeds to the left of the tracks is the former yard lead, with ties poorly visible. The only reason the second track likely still exists is due to conflicts between the Amtrak Maple Leaf and weekend evening GO train in which the Amtrak is often delayed. While the yard is gone, and barely any track or trains remain in Niagara Falls, the Amtrak and GO trains still trundle their way around the curve here. On most days it is just the Amtrak however. Here, GO 557 bobs its way around the curve towards Clifton having just departed Niagara Falls with weekend GO train 782. The F59PH’s are now starting to make their mark around Niagara Falls having been mostly absent over their 29 year history. In just a few short years however, even these units will go the way of Niagara Falls Yard. 782 is just exiting the 10mph zone, which exists because it is dark territory on a blind curve. With dirt bikes that frequently cross between the two switches, corn field meets probably aren’t the only thing the 10mph limit has prevented. Speaking of which, dirt bikers had crossed just moments before the GO popped around the curve. The angle of the full moon suggested that this location would be nice to shoot from for once. Typically I’d avoid Niagara Falls altogether when railfanning for obvious reasons.

I agree with the sad state of Niagara's rail scene...my photo is taken from the station. Sad indeed. But you have captured a decent shot. Way to go!
