Comments on: Dismal grey December day, but historical image. This view is of CN 1227 running eastward to CN Oakville sub where the old Beach line joins up at Burlington West. The end of the train is about to clear Lakeshore Rd and behind me is the crossing on Brock St. The train is returning from switching out cars at businesses at the end of the line down by Langs Food Ltd. Before the Stoney Creek traffic circle was removed in the early 70s and the QEW thru there rebuilt, the CN line extended another 0.8 mile past Langs and joined the CN Grimsby sub in Stoney Creek, near Lake Av. My recollection of the former Beach Sub is a bit fuzzy. I believe service ended in 1977, track abandoned in 1981 and pulled up in 1983. The location of this photo can be identified by the white apartment which is still standing at the corner of Lakeshore Rd and Maple Av. In the left background was where the ‘famous’ Brant Inn stood until about 5 years before this photo was taken. The area is all built up now.

A great photo. The former right of way at that location is now a City of Burlington parking lot. Sunshine Donuts would be behind you today, a great place for a treat.

Thanks. Oh how I wished for a better camera back then. But I was paying for a car, paying apt rent, paying for vacations and cameras were expensive back then compared to today. Plus, I never once thought this dabbling with taking train photos would ever consume me. But it sure did. )
