Comments on: DOWNGRADE AT KITTY’S BROOK – As photographed from the vestibule of Coach 757, Terra Transport Mixed Extra 935 West with single unit NF210 935 has just crossed the first of two bridges over that brook overflowing with spring run-off on April 20, 1987. This view gives some perspective of the grades encountered on the former Newfoundland Railway during the photographer’s first of five runs on the Bishops Falls to Corner Brook mixed service. By now the railway was pretty much fully containerized but living on borrowed time.

Oh my gosh Ken, such a great picture ! It captures the very essence of Newfoundland railroading, and the colours are so vibrant. I can just hear the rumble of the train as it rolls across the bridge ! As soon as this image appeared on my screen, I knew it had to be a Pieroway picture. Thanks so much for posting, John. PS, waiting to go under the Xmas tree is (I hope) a copy of one of your books !

Wow, that's even more crazy than I thought - a race against time and you did very well for yourself. I can only wish to have been there for it. Was 10 years old when it was abandoned...

Thank you again for sharing and looking forward to more. If I do find your book out this way I'll definitely get a copy.

Thank you Stephen! I had missed riding the mixed trains on the Carbonear, Argentia and Bonavista sub-divisions as they were already abandoned. You can only imagine my excitement in discovering that a mixed train still existed in Newfoundland in 1987 (thanks to a friend who was doing an engineering work term at Terra Transport in St. John's)! Upon discovery of this, myself and my then girlfriend (now wife) immediately drove to Bishops Falls to experience what I had thought was lost forever. I spent pretty much the entire 138 miles of the sub-division leaning out the vestibule with the trainman's permission as well as the view from the cupola of the caboose! Railroading on the Rock was always a unique and special experience.
