Comments on: Dreary old train on a dreary old winters’ day. Amtrak E9A units 404 and 405 look like they are on their last legs as they rumble eastward past the Mile Marker 2. So they are that close to the International Bridge. I wondered about two units on such a short train. Reliability issues? Or were they not turned for the return trip from Windsor?

Looking back through some of my photos. Seemed they used multiple units in the winter. Unreliable steam boiler? No 63 was turned on arrival in Detroit on the Bay City Jct wye ready for the next days No 64. The Conrail supplied St Thomas crew would take rest at a hotel in Detroit.
