Comments on: Due to the location of these locomotives and the rather dire weather forecast for the day; I waited out rainstorms, winds and generally lousy conditions hoping to get a photo of these two locomotives in sunlight.As luck would have it, the sun came out briefly in the very late afternoon and I was pleased with this shot. (Note a weak rainbow in the top right corner of this image). Inside the fenced Rayonier (former Tembec) facility in Kap these two units look as if their days are done. The Spruce Falls S-13 #108 was acquired new by the company back in 1967. The former Mattagami RR #168 GP7 was acquired in 1998. (Before its Mattagami days, this unit toiled on Algoma Central as their 168) While visiting there all rail activity at the plant was handled by a DESX 5176 (Diesel Electric Services)switcher. So the old units are probably expendable. Rayonier is a producer of quality newsprint and other similar products.

Thanks, Matt: For me it was seeing the Mattagami locomotive sitting there still with the old lettering. I did not ever see that little shortline in operation and it bugged me. But at least now I have a photo of a loco other than the steam engine rusting away in Smooth Rock Falls.
