Comments on: During a spring evening after completing their work, CN 421’s crew had to wait for the 15:30 Kitchener Job to return to the yard with their lift of newly built automotive frames from the Budd plant in Kitchener. Knowing they had some ample time to wait, they departed the yard light power down the siding towards King Street for some dinner options. The units included; CN GP40-2L(W) 9505, C-630M 2038 and an SD40-2(W). The power crossed King Street and stopped behind the plaza, that featured a Tim Hortons, Subway and a McDonalds across the street. At the time the siding extended even further west towards Park Street, however this portion was rarely used as most trains exited it at King Street through the cross-overs. So pictured here is 421’s power in the siding with the iconic Epton factory and its water tower in the background. Also, several other factories can be observed, showing-off Kitchener’s once vibrant industrial past. To the right of 9505 is the Guelph Subdivision mainline with another small siding track and the very far track is the Huron Park Spur. Today this is the location of the GO Transit layover facility and the plaza where the crew went that night is completely gone.
