With industrial Hamilton in the background, SOR 495 is headed back to the yard on the N&NW Spur and chugging mightily up the grade, about to pass under Ferguson Ave to meet the CNR Grimsby Subdivision. RLK 3873 sports a rather tasteful patch job, eliminating the Raillink logos, most likely a transitional scheme before application of G&W Orange. For the history buffs – the N&NW Spur, (Formerly the Hamilton & North Western railway mainline) had a grade seperated underpass with the Great Western at this point (which survived well into the CN Days) and a roundhouse, shops and yard existed just to the south (Behind me) – the outline of which can still be seen today, but has only in the last 2 years been re-developed. The famous Ferguson Street running would be just south of me – itself part of the former H&NW mainline. The N&NW Spur runs into the industrial spurs in the background, and used to cross the QEW/HWY 2, north across the beach strip, meeting the Oakville sub at Burlington West. The Halton sub to Georgetown is also part of the former H&NW Railway, as is the SSR at Tottenham, and the SOR Hagersville sub from Caledonia to Garnet.
