Comments on: Five years ago I posted an image (#6753) of this train on the CP Hamilton Sub with an explanation. A derailment at Streetsville canceled most of the morning GO trains. Of 5, only two made it thru before the incident. A decision was made to run the others down from Guelph Jct, where they were kept at the time, to the CN and run along Lakeshore and back to Toronto to enable commuters that found other ways to Toronto in the morning, perhaps by auto or bus, to return to their homes at night in the manner they were accustomed. So there was this shocking scene of GO coming down from Waterdown………the whole gaggle of GOs reversed out at Hamilton Jct and the GO 705 lead a three train set eastward, as seen here from the Bayview Walkbridge. As best I could tell all the power involved was GO 705, 906, 907, 710, 721, 904 and cab 239. The Streetsville derailment was apparently of minor nature, and was to be cleaned up by later afternoon.

Don't know how this move could take place now. But since GO had their facility right by the Ham sub back then, it made sense, I guess. Times have changed, I think it would be busing to the rescue.

The question is, if a derailment on the Milton line happened today during the morning rush before most of the trains even got going, would this same move occur? Seems highly unlikely. Whenever CN or CP derails nowadays, they usually just sit and wait it out as that's probably more economical. Then again, GO is a passenger railroad, and they've shown significant efforts to detour in the past.
