<title>Comments on: Fog is quite common in mountain valleys during fall, and the morning of Oct 12, 1981 was no exception.

Approaching Craigellachie on Hwy 1, I spotted the headlight of what looked like the Vernon wayfreight in the siding. I pulled over, and the crew told me they were waiting for a slightly tardy VIA No.2.

The picture I captured that morning shows 2 looming out of the fog, under the watchful eye of the wayfreight conductor. Note the open phone box door. A sure sign he&#8217;d been asking the Dispatcher ( no RTC&#8217;s in those days )
how much longer they&#8217;d be stuck here. Across from the Conductor is the Last Spike monument, which in a few years would be upgraded to a much more suitable attraction.</title>
