Comments on: For me, this shot is a long time ago. I had been into this ‘train photography’ barely a month when I shot this, and VIA wasn’t even born. It was before the days of the now ever-present notebook, and so numbers are not recorded; just the date on the image. CN 6777, “B” unit and a pair of CN geeps pull dinner time train #75 around the bend at Bayview Junction on a decent (for photography)but overcast Sunday. This image shows the train rolling under the York Blvd bridge at Hamilton West. Not much has changed here from this setting in the past 44+ years. The MLW FPA-4 #6777 is now operating on the Cuyahoga Valley in Ohio.

Now thats a classic photo. Love this consist and of course the FPA4′s. I was lucky enough to hire on in 81 when these beauties were still running and sat up front in the cab many times. Sadly they were not around much longer as the LRC units started to replace them.

The 70s were good for train travel as well as trainspotting. There were plenty of trains and the fares were fairly cheap, even taking into account inflation. There were some regrettable discontinuances starting in 1970, though, such as S.S. Marie, CP Windsor and both CN and CP to Owen Sound.

For us old guys, those stripes, during the sixties, meant passenger train and the excitement of seeing the train (or giving chase with your Dad) typically went up a couple of notches.

Wish I was around to capture passenger service on the Dundas Sub….at least during this period. After all….I am 1.5 yrs older than VIA Rail itself! Love the photo Arnold
