Comments on: For the Niagara guys, and anyone else who finds this interesting: So on a random trip to Niagara to shoot the NS transfer, I ran into this thing departing Welland heading south, just about to turn away from the CASO. I’d like to know what the heck is going on with this train though. Did anyone else see this, either on this day or any other time? The full consist is CP 2285, CP 60, CP 424994, CP 65, and SOO 79173* (*Difficult to read). I do have a nice across the field shot of this train but I didn’t chase far, the NS usually crossed much earlier in this era so I had to go.

Any chance that the trailing hopper had a missing drawbar on the rear end? I have seen cars with pulled/missing drawbars placed at the back of trains headed for a shop. If the geometry consist was going to be heading south anyway & the powers that be wanted this crippled car moved, that would be a good option, especially if it was picked up somewhere along the line. It’s a real pain using a long train to pick up a car that has to go on the very rear.
