Comments on: Four SDs lead the daily Toronto-Buffalo manifest freight over the old Michigan Central bridge into the USA on a late fall afternoon. Power is CP 5609, HATX 512, CP 5918 and 5655. All units have different paint variations; the last with the shortlived “dual-flag” scheme.
I’m glad I managed a few shots here, as it was only another 6 years or so and trains thru CPs downtown Niagara Falls line would be silenced forever. There was talk of dismantling the bridge, but, at the time the cost of $25 million just to tear it down seemed oppressive. So, even today, there it rusts.

Great shot after WW11 my cousins job along with others just back from the war was to paint it. Still see him in a bosin chair hanging down the lower gritter with red lead paint. Thanks again

Everything has changed so much I am not really sure. It used to be the Parkway 4 lanes, 2 each way; I think that has been carved up. There was a pulloff spot from which I could wander over to the edge of the gorge (not for faint hearted) and anchor myself to a tree in the clearing. Suppose it is still doable, but nothing now but scenery. Probably 1/3 of the way down toward the Rainbow Bridge from the Whirlpool.

Great view Arnold. Where does one have to stand to get this angle today? Presume it's from another bridge?

Thanks for the comments. I REALLY miss the old line thru downtown Niagara Falls. It was a great source of railfanning pleasure.
