Comments on: Going back nearly 45 years in time for this shot of the old SOO CP station. It has been gone quite a while, having caught fire (arson?) on May 29, 1994 and subsequently demolished on August 24th of that same year. The MLW S-4 7099 resting out front was retired by 1986. Back then was not unusual to see it or one of its’ sisters sitting out there. The track from the SOO to Sudbury is leased to Huron Central now…..since 1997.

And Elora, on a hallowe'en night.....I am sure that day produces a lot of firebugs.
Strathroy was a beautiful building, and when I passed by it not long after the fire the only thing left standing was the end walls and a chimney. No idea what has happened to it now, except I would imagine the rest was removed.

So in agreeance Arnold! Infamous for this was the Strathroy station. *sigh*....but until someone comes forward to have a bulletproof plan and a large truck hauling the funds....sadly, these beautiful structures go by the wayside.

Beautiful photo though....shows better times and I will keep enjoying them!

No, Brad. I have not yet seen it, despite having 4 or 5 other Ron Brown books. I do know in Niagara, off the top o' me noggin'.....lost to fire down this way...Thorold, Grimsby, Winona, Merritton.....Grimsby was electrical, I think Winona was a stove problem; the other two arson......abandoned stations are usually a good target for these destructive jerks that wander out there at night.

Mr Mooney. It seems common that stations 'catch fire'. Have you ever read the book 'The Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore by Ron Brown'? Ironically my Dad, a non railfan, bought it for me for Christmas! So sad.
